A sense of concern has settled over the community following a Tuesday afternoon shooting near the Durango Skate Park, an area typically filled with families, walkers, and outdoor enthusiasts. The incident, which unfolded along the Animas River Trail, has prompted an active investigation by the Durango Police Department as residents seek answers and reassurance.

According to authorities, the shooting occurred at approximately 1:17 p.m. in the 1300 block of Roosa Avenue, a busy corridor situated between the skate park and nearby recreational courts. What is normally a vibrant and welcoming space quickly transformed into an active emergency scene, as officers responded within minutes of receiving reports of gunfire. Their immediate priority was to assist the victim, a man believed to be in his 30s, who had sustained a gunshot wound.

First responders worked swiftly to provide aid. Personnel from the Durango Fire Protection District arrived shortly after and helped stabilize the victim before he was transported to Mercy Hospital for further treatment.
